USA Rugby Launches Introductory Coaching Course to Support Players, Parents, and Emerging Coaches
USA Rugby’s Training & Education department is expanding access to coach development with the launch of a new Introductory Coaching Course, designed to help players, parents, and emerging coaches build a stronger understanding of the fundamentals of coaching.
This new offering provides an accessible entry point for individuals who want to contribute more effectively during training sessions, support coaches on the field, and gain a clearer understanding of how the coaching process works within rugby.
A Practical First Step into Coaching
Delivered as a 2-hour live Zoom session, the course creates an interactive learning environment where participants can engage directly with experienced presenters and fellow learners. Through live discussion and guided instruction, attendees will explore the core concepts that help shape effective coaching in rugby.
The course is ideal for:
- Players interested in helping lead activities during training sessions
- Parents who want to better support coaches and assist on the field
- Current coaches looking to refresh their understanding of key coaching principles
Participants will be introduced to foundational topics including the coaching process, principles of play, and the practical application of games versus drills.
Built for Learning and Development
While this course is an excellent first step toward building communication, leadership, and on-field support skills, it is important to note that it is not the USA Rugby Level 1 Coaching Course and does not result in Level 1 certification.
Instead, the Introductory Coaching Course is designed to make coaching education more approachable and to help more members of the rugby community feel confident contributing in meaningful ways.
